This particular work in the Aargauer Kunsthaus is part of an ongoing series of readings, performances and audio-based installations, called «Backsides and Phantom Files».
The performance involves historical documents and mugshots of so-called «displaced persons» that were discovered in the cantonal archives of Aargau. These photos, commissioned by the Swiss Office of the Attorney General at the time, mirror the ego- centric viewpoint of a white, homogeneous, complacent society. What they reflect contradicts the artist’s personal experience and raises explosive ethical questions about exclusion and racism.
