«Tous les sexes tombent du ciel», 2021
In this performance, developed for the Arsenic in Lausanne and the Théâtre de l'Usine in Geneva, Léa Katharina Meier tells the «Grosse Geschichte der Reinlichkeit» [tr. Great Story of Cleanliness] from the perspective of its dirtiest corners. The artist offers a relentless, clownish spectacle as she slips into the most abysmal roles, embodying what is usually considered monstrous, repulsive, or ludicrous. In her passionate «auto-démolition» [tr. self-destruction], supported by texts, dance, music, video, and textile works, the artist questions her own desires as well as societal norms. Meier initiates a liberating process to heal the Self who has chosen to endure shame and discomfort.
